Over a year later...
Tout a changé (Rien n'a changé)...this song by Helena from 2025 rings in my ears as I step back into work mode almost a year after taking a pause.
I found out I was pregnant on 12th March 2025, a month and 9 days after my last blog post. Almost immediately, my world changed. It changed in so many wonderful ways, it changed me as a person, it changed my relationship with my husband from partners to partners and parents, and it changed my relationship with food.
Oh and boy did it change my palate! I am still shocked at the amount of spice I was able to consume and more about the fact that I developed a sweet tooth. I went off alcohol obviously but I tried out possibly every non alcoholic wine available (more on that soon). It was being a new human with new taste experiences. I lived on rasam rice with Magic Masala chips soaked in it, during the first trimester. I binged on the pink Buldok and added Chinese red chili flakes in oil to make it spicier (as if that were possible!). I fell in love with Chicken Tonkatsu, Dhokla and Rajasthani minced red chili pickle with dal and rice....and dark chocolate ice cream and mousse. I basically lived for food that otherwise wouldn't make any sense to me.
This is when I realized how amazing growing a human can be - its yes a miracle of life but its also a miracle of how our senses just change due to all the hormones that surge through your body as you grow a human inside of you. for 41 weeks you carry this little being who depends upon you to develop possibly their first taste of food (mine will possible love spicy food)!
Life got very rough after I had my Rumi (my beautiful gift from god!). Not just because being a mom is tough (breastfeeding makes it tougher) but also because I developed a rare condition (which got diagnosed in May 2026, 6 months after I had her and had already suffered through the pain for that long) called Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, leading to Chronic Pain Disease. Life got tough when this started but it got worse as it progressed. Finally once early June morning I got myself ready and headed into The American Hospital in Paris (alone, coz my baby got sick the day prior and my husband had to stay with her) and went through a 3.5 hour surgery. It took 3 weeks of recovery and another 2 to get life back on track and finally by end July I was able to finally walk without pain. So much that I just spent 3 weeks in Cote de Azure and enjoyed it pain free. The final test will be as I restart running...which I did last week and its not yet been pain free. But here's hoping for a slow recovery to normal life.
So here I am, a year and a lovely summer later, restarting my blog...and asking you to follow me and my love of food, cooking and travel. I know I haven't eaten everything...but its on my list.
